Denim Distressing 101 (Continued)How to Break 'Em In Without Breaking the Bank.Guide by A. Stevens
Acid Washed / Bleached:
Flash back to the 80's with a pair of stylishly distressed acid washed jeans! This rock star style can add extreme attitude to any denim, however, we recommend working with your skinny jeans if you seek a truly cutting edge look.
Warning: It is very important that you complete the process outdoors (due to the harsh chemical odors of the bleach), and wear protective gloves / clothing while you work.
Process:
- Fill your 5-gallon bucket about ½ way full and submerge your jeans, make sure they are fully soaked. Drain the bucket and wring out the excess water from your jeans.
- Place the jeans back into your empty bucket. Wearing your gloves, take your bleach and squirt it liberally on random areas of your jeans, leaving some bits uncovered. Rub the bleach in slightly, scrunch the jeans up a bit, squirt on some more bleach if needed.
- Let soak for 10-20 minutes and keep an eye on the color. When you are happy with the color rinse your jeans in cold water and then machine wash / dry as normal. Warning: Allowing the bleach to sit any longer than 20 minutes may result in severe denim deterioration and we highly advise against it.
